• Valkyrie Robotics prepares

the students of Today for the
    industries of Tomorrow.

  • ABOUT US

Valkyrie Robotics is an engineering-education 501(c)3 nonprofit based out of and serving California’s Bay Area, where we seek to strengthen the students of today with the skills necessary for the industries of tomorrow. Valkyrie serves a community of 6th-12th grade students through a variety of competitive teams, tutoring programs, and summer camps — many of whom have little access to such programs at school.

Indeed, Valkyrie is based in the heart of Silicon Valley — our headquarters is within located within three miles of that of Apple Inc., and the majority of our volunteers and corporate officers work in the local industry. Yet the demand for STEM programs still far outpaces the supply — most local robotics teams, for example, limit membership to a single school, where hundreds of students often compete for only 30 slots each year. Many schools — and thus the students based there — have no such team at all. Valkyrie seeks to fill this gap. Each one of our educational programs accepts students from any school, race, gender, or financial background, and looks to serve those students no other organization serves.

Through our competitive and educational programs, we give students hands-on experience in robotics, manufacturing, programming, mechanical design, engineering organization, and beyond; and beyond the walls of our shop, we hold a wide variety of workshops, demonstrations, and educational events at faires, parks, museums, and events throughout the Bay Area. Each year we seek to expand our operations to serve more students, whether by holding new community outreach events, expanding our existing competitive and educational programs, or founding new ones wholesale.

    Supporting

    Diversity & Inclusion

Inclusion lies at the very heart of Valkyrie's mission. Valkyrie seeks to fight, first and foremost, the gaping inequality of opportunity that is today available to students in poorer school districts, as well as the chronic inequalities that exist for women and minority groups in the fields of STEM. ll students, no matter their race, gender, or economic background, are provided opportunities for learning through Valkyrie.

    Teaching

    Real-World Skills & Experience

We firmly believe that learning is best accomplished by doing. In accordance with this belief, we structure our entire program around providing students the closest thing we can get to real industry experience; by connecting them with professionals from industry and academia, we convey skills to last a lifetime.

    The Leaders of Tomorrow

In today's economy, leadership skills become more important with every passing year. We look to put students as leaders first by giving them the autonomy to make their own decisions and plan their own strategies, including programs with budgets exceeding $10,000. In doing so, Valkyrie prepares our students to serve as the nation's leaders in the industries of tomorrow.

    Valkyrie Robotics FRC#299

All-inclusive community robotics program for grades 8-12

The largest and oldest of our competitive-educational programs, Valkyrie Robotics FRC#299 involves more than 70 students and 20 adult volunteers each year through direct access to workshops, mentoring, and hands-on-engineering projects, along with hundreds of community members indirectly through their autonomous outreach and charitable efforts. Students in this team have access to mentors with years of experience in industry, including companies like Google, Apple, Intel, and Uber, with backgrounds in software engineering, mechanical design, law, electrical engineering, and more. Through the Executive Committee, students work together with adult mentors to manage the daily operations of the team, providing not only technical skills but valuable leadership experience to prepare them for the industries of tomorrow.

    Valkyrie Advance

Summer engineering bootcamp for grades 6-8

Valkyrie Advance is a week-long engineering bootcamp in the city of Cupertino, California, intended for students graduating from 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Over the course of a week, students enrolled in Advance learn vital skills in programming, mechanical engineering, and design. Students then join together into teams of two to three to create robots to match a brand-new challenge each year, finishing off the week with a friendly competition between the groups.

    Project Backpack

School supplies for Puerto Rican students

In the wake of hurricane Maria, and more recently COVID-19, Puerto Rican schools, already underserved in comparison to their counterparts in the Continental United States, have suffered great difficulty in acquiring the supplies and materials necessary to provide their students with a proper education. Project Backpack, founded in 2018 by local school students, seeks to address this gap through direct charitable action: by connecting local donors, grantors, and sponsors with needy schools in Puerto Rico, Project Backpack ensures that supplies get supplies to the schools that need them most.

    VEX Educational Robotics Team "RoboNinjas"

Engineering & robotics education through friendly competition

Valkyrie's VEX Robotics arm serves as our primary competitive robotics offering for students in the 6th-8th grades, providing them an opportunity to get ahead of their peers and prepare for further participation in high-school and beyond. Competing under the aegis of VEX EDR #22999, "RoboNinjas", the team now enters its second year, with hopes for many more!

    Support for COVID-19 Response

Engineering & robotics education through friendly competition

With most of our operations closed as the world weathered the pandemic, Valkyrie sought to put what resources we had to use in supporting primary care providers. By having provided student volunteers in the 9th and 10th grades with access to 3d printing tools and materials, we've given hundreds of components for use in personal protective equipment across the bay.
